People & Skills

Historic England is committed to supporting the next generation of heritage professionals and ensuring the specialist skills needed to care for England’s historic environment are sustained. From conservation and craftsmanship to research and public engagement, these skills are essential to protecting and understanding our shared heritage.

Through initiatives such as the Future Talent programme, we provide opportunities for young people and those from underrepresented backgrounds to gain experience, develop skills and build careers in the heritage sector. By investing in people and skills, we can help ensure that the knowledge and expertise needed to care for historic places continues to grow and evolve for the future.
