About us

The Foundation exists primarily to support the work of Historic England - the public body that helps people care for, enjoy and celebrate the history that surrounds us now, and in the years to come.

The Foundation cares passionately about the places that define who we are and where we've come from as a nation, the stories they tell, the ideas they represent and the people who live, work and play among them.

Charitable objectives

  • Promote the conservation, protection and improvement of heritage assets in England
  • Advance education by promoting research into, and furthering the public's knowledge and enjoyment of, heritage assets situated in England and their conservation in particular but not exclusively by supporting the work of Historic England.
